Y-Girls STEAM Ahead: Youngstown

Open to girls entering grades 5-8.

YWCA Mahoning Valley Y-Girls STEAM Ahead is a series summer camp activities geared toward girls in middle school. Y-Girls aims to address the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics by providing resources and workshops to engage girls’ interests in STEAM fields and keep them interested for future STEAM careers.

2021 Youngstown Summer STEAM Information

NASA Blast Off! To the Moon and Mars: Campers will learn about NASA and the complex functions of spacesuits. They will use electronics, coding and sensors to test for gases and radiation in the spacesuit. They will also explore the Red Planet and design an item that they think would be necessary to live on Mars.

Biz 3D & Entrepreneurship: Dream it? Build it! Campers will learn how to take an idea and turn it into reality. They will see 3D printing in action, brainstorm a a new product or an innovation of an existing product, design or build the item and create their business plan.

Summer Manufacturing Institute: Campers will explore microelectronics and focus on the manufacturing of a smartwatch. They can walk to local manufacturers in Warren as well as incorporate digital sessions with manufacturers who are unable to provide live visits.

Arts and More: Campers will learn about graphic arts, how to run a small business from women entrepreneurs and designers, and go on gallery tours. They will participate in a solar cooking project and build self-esteem with a personal growth workshop.
