Y-Girls STEAM Ahead: Youngstown

Open to girls entering grades 5-8.

YWCA Mahoning Valley Y-Girls STEAM Ahead is a series of summer camp programs held at our Youngstown location geared toward girls in middle school. Y-Girls aims to address the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics by providing resources and workshops to engage girls’ interests in STEAM fields and keep them interested for future STEAM careers.

Youngstown’s Y-Girls’ STEAM Ahead Camps are generously sponsored by:

Summer 2019 Summer Camp Registration Details

Camps run Mondays-Fridays, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm from June 10-14, June 17-21, and June 24-28. 

Each summer camp costs $60, or register for all three weeks for $150. Registration fee includes all field trips, supplies, and healthy meals and snacks. Registration must be paid the Wednesday before the start of each camp. Registration fees can be paid online or by check.

Registration packets can be downloaded here and returned by email to, mailed to YWCA (25 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown, OH 44503), or dropped off at YWCA’s Youngstown office. Paper applications can be picked up at the office. Registration fee and all registration paperwork must be returned to YWCA in order for enrollment to be completed.

Drop-off is at 8:30 am and pick-up is at 3:30 pm at our Youngstown office (25 W. Rayen Ave.).

2019 Youngstown Summer STEAM Schedule

Week 1 (June 10-14): Biz3D in Youngstown — Take your big ideas and turn them into a business! YSU’s Center for Human Services Development and the Youngstown Business Incubator’s Biz3D program activates the entrepreneurial mindset in girls and introduces them to 3D manufacturing. Present your 3D-printed business at a reception for parents the last day of camp!

Week 2 (June 17-21): Summer Manufacturing Institute — Summer Manufacturing Institute returned to YWCA with our partners at Oh Wow! Explore the exciting world of manufacturing with field trips and site visits that offer hands-on learning experiences. Work in the Oh Wow! InspireWorks Lab to manufacture your own creations. Show off your skills at a reception for family the last day of camp!

Week 3 (June 24-28): Multimedia Communications —Get your pencils and notebooks ready! Visit local radio and TV stations to get the scoop on how the news is made. You’ll chase leads, conduct interviews, take footage, write stories, and produce your own magazine! Launch your magazine at a release party for family the last day of camp!
